PE and School Sport at St Johns CE

Our vision is to provide high quality physical education and school sport through personal challenge and competition that will lead to life-long participation.

PE plays a vital role in promoting physical activities and a healthy lifestyle in a positive and enjoyable way for all pupils. Our curriculum aims to develop and challenge pupils’ abilities in a range of physical activities and sports – helping them to develop their personal fitness and learn important life skills such as teamwork, honesty and perseverance .

Each academic year the children will have opportunities to take part in a wide variety of different sports including: Athletics, High 5, Cricket, Dance, Tennis, Football, Gymnastics, Orienteering, Tri Golf, Benchball, Hockey, Ultimate Frisbee, Rounders, Yoga, Tag Rugby and Swimming.

Mile a Day

At St Johns CE we love doing the daily mile. The daily mile scheme is to encourage children to be active in line with the governments guideline of the active 30:30 with 30 minutes of exercise done in school each day and the other 30 minutes to be done at home whether that is running, walking or cycling being active is the key. We also have a Mile a Day board which is a challenge between each class to see who can do the most miles in each half term. The winning infant class and the winning junior class get a goodie bag with lots of playtime equipment in.

School Games Awards

In 2019 we achieved the School Games Platinum Sports Mark Award, following five consecutive Gold Award years. Platinum status is achieved by only a handful of schools nationwide who have consistently achieved a Gold Mark in previous years and have shown dedication to sport and activity in their region.

We will be applying for the School Games Platinum Sport Mark Award for 2021-22 and hopefully we will be successful.
